Banner design

Banners are currently the most represented Internet advertising form. They are, actually, attractive ads in form of static image or animation, whose function is to intrigue visitor and link him to your website.

Banner can also be considered as an ad space which is a part of some web page, where advertisers can publish any content that can be published on Internet. You can choose dimensions of banner from standard (120x600, 160x600, 180x150, 400x240, 250x250, 336x280, 468x60) or by extent, depending of how much space you have for an ad.

Banner purpose

Banner advertising definitely means an increase in sales and influence on clients. Banners can be used for several purposes, such are:
  • Increase in products or services sales
  • Informing clients about new products/services or special offers
  • Public significant informations
  • Facilitate people to remember the name of your company (work up their wishes for buying your products).

Banner types

We can distinguish two main banner types:
  • Static banners (usually in JPG or GIF format)
  • Animated banners (GIF or FLASH)

Types of advertising campaigns

Campaigns led by banner ads, can generally be divided in two categories:
  • Branding campaigns – they serve, as a word says, for brand development for some company or product and make them famous. They are parallel with campaigns in other media (press, radio, television, sponsorships...). These campaigns can lead companies that are already well-known in public (for example, Coca-Cola promotes Coca-Cola Light version) or companies that are yet to be well-known on market, and have money for a larger campaign (such is SAAB). The aim of this campaign is not to get visitor to click immediatelly on the banner, but to remember the company’s name or product, thanks to constantly appearing, and link that image with something good and attractive.

  • Click-through campaigns – used when you don’t want to promote your brand, but particular product or service in the most direct way. This type of banner must call a visitor to some kind of action, must contain some senses, or be witty, to attract attention. The adventage of this campaign is attracting determined group of visitors that are interested in concrete product or service.
