Domain registration (.com .net .org .rs…)
Domain is, actually, your website’s name (address), and it is necessary to be easy to remember or to associate to your company’s name (or to be the same, if it’s possible), because it is put to all headers, business cards, etc.
We recommend you firstly to check if you can register domain that ends with .com (www.NameOfTheCompany.com), if it is free, use it for your site, if not, there are others: .rs, .net, .org, .biz, etc. We recommend that one because it is well-known, short and easy to remember
Even if you don’t have your website prepared, it would be good to register domain immediately so that someone wouldn’t have bought it before you and offered you it for over 1000 times higher price!
Each state has its own local domain (for our country it is .rs) and to register them, it is necessary to have company registered. You cannot register any name in home-domain (this usually refers to derogatory and swear words), and each state provides this list of words by law.
Explanations for some of the most popular domains
- .COM is definitely the most popular domain, com is abbreviation for commercial, but anyone can register it
- .NET is usually used by leading network companies, such are telecommunication companies, Internet providers, etc., or it is used as an alternative if .com domain has already been taken.
- .ORG should be used by non-profit organizations and companies which are not directly related to profit (but, as in previous case, it is used if the previous domains are already engaged).
